Dickens has it right. "The law is an ass."

Old as it is, Dirty Harry still rocks the house. Eastwood carries the day as an iconoclastic, odd-man-out law enforcement officer, more hampered by the system than by the bad guys. What a classic line, "I know what you're thinking...." Five of five and high nostalgic recommendations.

Classic movie. Some scenes do look a little dated now but it proves that you can make a great crime thriller without swear words being used every other word. 10/10

As a crime genre, Dirty Harry fulfils many crime conventions such as gun scenes, chases, cop jokes, mystery and suspense. The direction by Siegel (Two mules for Sister Sara) is great, especially at the beginning when the first incident happens. The film adds plenty of mystery and suspense for the audience to keep in track with one of the most famous crime films in history. The story builds up the tension at necessary points with many gun scenes encoded for emphasis. Its clear to see nowadays that gun scenes are overdone where as here in this classic there are few, adding a more realistic view of crime life. The film captures the realistic conventions of everyday police work and fulfils its purpose. It may lack at points but it's certainly entertaining throughout. The ending is very well directed and is very gripping. The first sight the movie world got of inspector Harry Callaghan.Emerging through a door and proceeding to a rooftop swimming pool to inspect a murder victim shot from a nearby rooftop sniper. The introduction of a soon to be legend is made. A maniac sniper in San Francisco is killing randomly and at doing so at will with apparent will.He is demanding a ransom and dosen't care about killing more people indiscriminately in the interim period. The story evolves into a frantic game of cat and mouse between the sniper Scorpio and Harry.Ignoring the red tape and restrictions of his department Harry goes on a single man crusade determined to free the girl Scorpio has captured and to deliver some well needed justice to Scorpio The intense burning desire placed in the viewer for law and order created so well actually wishes Harry would would just be done with it and shot Scorpio dead.A whole good versus bad story with Harry being the avenger striking a blow for the average law abiding person. This quest puts Harry in vast conflict with his superiors.Harry obtaining the location of the girl having tortured Scorpio is told Scorpio cannot be held due to the lack of admissable evidence.Scorpios human rights have been breached much to Harry's disgust. The girl was dead all along. The percussion driven score is tailor made for Dirty Harry and during the action sequences defines the those sequences effectively The stand out moment for me is at the end.Harry totally sick of the system for putting criminals rights ahead of the victims launches his detectives badge into a river.A dramactic action from a man consumed by rage and feeling betrayed by the very law his job is to uphold A cinematic classic and a magnum shooting Clint Eastwood being propelled to superstar status

You are reading way too much into it, after all it is just a movie. It is fantasy, no reality here...
