The Jane Austen Book Club: Explores Austen's adage that general incivility is at love's essence. Sylvia's husband dumps her for another woman, so Bernadette and Jocelyn organize a book club to distract her. They recruit Sylvia's daughter Allegra; Prudie, a young teacher whose marriage may be on the rocks; and Grigg, a sci-fi fan who joins out of attraction to Jocelyn. The six read and discuss one Austen novel per month. Jocelyn tries to interest Grigg in Sylvia; Allegra falls in love with a woman she meets skydiving; Prudie contemplates an affair with a student; Sylvia's ex keeps popping up. In the discussions, characters reveal themselves in their comments. By the end, are truths universally acknowledged?

This film really appealed to the Jane Austen nerd in me. I loved the discussion and the juxtaposition of the literary character's struggles alongside their own. Well worth the watch, if you're into this type of thing. 4/5

pretty good movie. the fact that it's based around jane austen books makes it all that much better, but of course when you pick classic pieces of literature to base a movie on it falls short in some places. the ending wasn't the best, but all around, it's a watchable film. 3/5

ok movie. About relationships today: endings, beginnings, changing, 2 thinking of taking back loves to start again? Those 2 - their lover's infidelity is ridiculous!to start again. People who take back 'cheaters' end lonely, cause they'll always cheat again, or at least be looking/wishing they could. The women in this storyline are NOT what REAL women SHOULD BE. They're all selfish & not willing to help put the spark back. The main older woman is not brought into the issues, except to help others and organize, BUT she has her yoga-making us think..she has her 'act together' already and ends in a wonderful dream life before her.... 2/5 watch if you're "a Today's Woman only" NOT AT ALL LIKE a REAL Jane Austin FAN!
