Great performance by Julianne Moore in a 50's setting that captures many contradictions of that fast changing era....4/5.

I enjoyed this movie, being a product of the 50s I found it had a lot of truth, which is sad when one remembers the turmoil this country went through during that era. Ms Moore is excellent in her role, and Quaid played the role of a tormented man excellently. Well worth the watch in my humble opinion.

This film was a bit too 'worthy' for me (4 Oscar nods should have warned me). (America loves self-congratulatory dramas, set in a cliched society of prejudice, against which battle protagonists with whose 'progressive' sentiments we can hardly fail to identify. A way of avoiding the challenges of the present?) Apparently, the film is a hommage to the 50's melodramas of Donald Sirk. I'd never heard of him, but I think if you love films like 'Brief Encounter', and you wonder why 'they don't make 'em like they used to', get your tissues, you'll enjoy this I think. :-)

Honest courageous story and true enough to make a good movie worthy of a watch.

I thought this was a pretty good movie. The acting was amazing. But the movie did dissapoint me a little bit. There was just something missing. Still worth seeing!

Julianne Moore is stunning as usual..I love her in every movie she is in.. But I think this movie could have gonne alot deeper..It was too fluffy and sweety.. Im left wanting more and thus, sorry to say- disappointed
