very nice classic movie of Arthur.9/10

This movie is a wonderful piece of work. It's slow at times, but every second of it is imbued with a pure artistic view and such romantism cannot be found nowadays. The acting's sometimes too flamboyant, but mostly kept in highest standarts. The score is amazing music, of the best quality. And the story gives room to such a rich interpretation of the tale they're even considering remaking it. I'm obviously expecting it.

This movie is one of my favourites from my childhood and in my opinion the best of the Arthurian legend movies out there despite it's age,it has some good battle scenes but what really makes this movie is the soundtrack which really helps to evoke the atmosphere of the age,8/10.

The movie was great!

had this on dvd when it 1st came out and will never grow tired of it. this is a darker version of excalibur and arthur and merlin. a must watch for all fans. the pace is good and the soundtrack ( "O FORTUNA" ) fits this perfectly especially when theyre on horseback. dont let this one pass you by and ignore the stupid comments below as this is great for 1981. 11/10

merlin is a little annoying in this version but great movie.

There is no greater sword and sorcery epic than the Tales of King Arthur. Wow. This one did it right, and it is over thirty years old! The long version of this movie is especially powerful. I can't do justice to the scenery, scope, and acting that went into the piece of modern art. The scale of the battles, the range of the actors; you rarely see something like this in the age of computer generated backgrounds. I hope it thrills you as much as it did me.

This is the sword from the lake in the Merlin/ King Aurthur era.

One of my favorites. Good cast, solid story, masterfully directed. Knights riding to last battle through apple orchard accompanied with Carl Orffs music from Carmina Burana, belong IMO to top 10 most epic, beautiful, meaningful movie scenes in history of cinematography (never failed to raise goose bumps every time I have seen it)

The best Arthurian movie ever made! Nicole Williamson's brilliant portrayal of Merlin is without peers! Merlin kicks ass in this movie!

Merlin the Magnificent....

Everyone knows the story of King Aurthur and the Knights of the Round Table however this movie portrays it in way that added swag to genre fantasy. The movie is a forgotten classic that should be revisited for those who thought they had seen it when they were a kid. I give the movie a 6 / 6

that's what I'm talking about! maybe 'cause it was part of my childhood... but there's no other king Arthur better movie!

A very good telling of the story with Merlin, arthur and co proudly acting there way through the legends.Mirren is class and mordred went on to be guy in the robin hood series.classical fight scenes to match the music . 8/10

This a definitely just became one of my favorite Merlin/ King Arthur legend movie.

This is the Masterpiece standard that all good Arthurian movies are judged against. like King Arthur for example. A timeless, sweeping epic.

7/10: Reallly like this film, lush, raw and oppulent. Didnt suger sprinkle the arthur legend. Had a good few comedic parts in it and lots of action.
