Call the Midwife: Based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth; the story follows twenty-two year old Jenny, who in 1957 leaves her comfortable home to become a midwife in London's East End slums. She expects to find a hospital, and is surprised to find that the clinic is a convent: Nonnatus House. Working alongside her fellow nurses and the medically-trained nuns, Jenny has her eyes opened to the harsh living conditions. But she also discovers the warm hearts and the bravery of the mothers; each one a heroine in Jenny's eyes.

Darn this show for making me cry like a baby every week. Last week I was crying so hard I couldn't even write about that episode. This week, as usual, there were some bright moments to offset the sad. Fred and the scooter were funny. Enjoy, but get your hankies ready.

Every week I try not to cry through this show and every week I lose. It is just so beautiful and tragic in the same episode. This week, I wept for that poor woman who had to go through such drastic measures, while the story concurrently showed what Trixie was going through. Maybe I cry because it shows how difficult it is to be a woman. Every character and episode brilliantly details a different struggle in a woman's life.

I boo hoo through this show every week. It is so beautiful.

This show is absolutely glorious.

This show is both glorious and heartbreaking. I love Chummy so much. She has a huge heart.

Lovely episode. I am going to find out who is in charge of the music selections and write to them. The music is absolute perfection.

I write this with my knees pressed firmly together, though today hopefully women do have it better. This show is quite dramatic. You would think I would know what to expect, but it was a shock to see nonetheless. The music was spectacular. On to the next episode.

What a wonderful episode!! This is exactly the way life is for every young woman, and most don't even know it, until they look back over years of memories. I cried, held my breath, laughed; this one was just so good, that if you've been following this series, you have to see it. Thank you to all of you who made this show available thru LMWT.

Beautiful episode, but you may need a hanky...

We did know that we could use something called the rhythm method. It help's to prevent pregnancy very well, when used properly. Before marriage, we had blood test's, and our doctor would go over what the rhythm method was, and how to use the thermometer each morning, and mark the chart that came with it. Our husband's knew if we had a headache, we were off limit's. We also had condom's. Both method's were available, and I alway's felt that it was less trouble to take 3 minute's each morning to prevent, than to worry about what to do afterward's, or to use condom's.

Great episode, and I agree with you Tracy, just as life can be, beautiful, and tragic at the same time. I just love this series, and look forward to each episode. I sure wish that American TV would take a page out of the UK's book, and give us wonderful programming like this!

I enjoy this show more with each passing episode! The US should take a page from the UK, and stop making all the crime and so called reality shows, and give us viewer's programming like this.

I wish I'd have found this before Christmas! I hope this series has a long run, and that next season will have more episodes than the 1st.

This is a wonderful series, and I'm so glad it didn't have only the first season! I wish they had this in the US, the BBC, and CBC seem to have the only things I truly enjoy. This ep. required tissues.

Tis was in the 1950's, and here in the US, most of the babies were born in hospital. So, I have to disagree about times being tragic for most. Remember that this was during what is now called the "baby-boom", when at least the US, saw it's most prolific birth rate ever!

I am an OB nurse and I have to say I really love this series. The delivery scenes are very realistic, and unlike shows in America where a baby is born the size of a 6 month old, these babies are obviously newborns. Even though I've been an OB nurse for 38 years I am still brought to tears watching this show. The cast is amazing and very lovable! Can't wait for more!! Thank you for making this available! Everyone.....watch this!!

get your tissue box ready for this one

One of the best shows I've seen in a very long time, so full of life and pure reality and facts so long forgotten that come alive through the stories shared in this drama. I can venture further and say that this is a show that actually feeds the soul and far from making us queasy about the facts of life it brings them closer to us in a very simple candid way. 10/10.
