Zero Dark Thirty: Maya is a CIA operative whose first experience is in the interrogation of prisoners following the Al Qaeda attacks against the U.S. on the 11th September 2001. She is a reluctant participant in extreme duress applied to the detainees, but believes that the truth may only be obtained through such tactics. For several years, she is single-minded in her pursuit of leads to uncover the whereabouts of Al Qaeda's leader, Osama Bin Laden. Finally, in 2011, it appears that her work will pay off, and a U.S. Navy SEAL team is sent to kill or capture Bin Laden. But only Maya is confident Bin Laden is where she says he is.

Zero Dark Thirty is a film that while controversial does an excellent job of showing the dangers, obstacles and political pitfalls involved in the war on "terror". Excellent acting performances especially by Jessica Chastain. Those who oppose the depiction of torture by the US and question to what degree it was involved in the capture of Bin-Laden miss the point. While this film culminates in the death of the world most notorious terrorist, its more about the war on terrorism than anything else and the gray areas that fighting an enemy who employs the tatics that al-Qaeda does presents for governments such as the US. I am glad that this film raises the questions it does, I am also glad it did not wrap up the hunt for and death of UBL in a cocoon of patriotic feel good baloney. Few things in life are black and white. The war on terror is no exception. Just because one is hunting evil does not mean that all methods used are righteous nor does it mean that all things that one would normally call immoral are without justification. To many people want black or white, I applaud this movie for showing us what it really is, shades of gray. 8.5/10

Amazing film, but not a pretty operation. Blows my mind how much detail is included in this film. Bird's eye view of the underbelly of what our CIA and special ops do. Grateful for them.

the last 45 minutes is worth a watch true or not some facts are right some are not you decide

An interesting movie though it dragged at some parts. I guess you really have to have an interest in the subject matter to like it, otherwise you might find it boring since the real action doesn't happen until the end of the movie. It's definitely not an action movie.

I am so sorry you lost your family, I don't think what you did was a waste, but I understand what you mean, by UN-winnable war! They have been fighting in the middle east since the dawn of EARTH, someone always wants the power, and use religion to fool people, and claim power, its sad, but I dont think any time soon, that will not ever change, but you made a difference in the lives you interacted with. You have to know that those ppl are way better off, without Osama, without Taliban rule. Look what the Taliban was doing to women and children, now those ppl are safer, and can live without that fear. And I agree, the religion itself the Muslim religion is not evil!! It was him, and he did act for the devil, a sheep in wolves clothing preaching false word, under the name of Allah, or god. What a shame that so many were fooled by his word. Thank you for your service.

Lol everyone thinks it's so hip to hate on America...especially people from America. The movie was well made and relatively entertaining. I can see how some people with low attention spans would get bored by it but the intense moments are well done.

I was in Afghanistan when Bin Laden was allegedly killed. I thought it was pretty good. It's not fast paced but has some decent tension. with that being said, this movie has to mostly fiction; and it being based on an event that took place (allegedly) just a couple years ago i am not sure i feel to good about it. though i think it is interesting and did enjoy watching it. I just dont like that the movie basically is making so much of this up based on secret information . plus no one ever showed Bin Ladens body, if i get to see Saddam Husseins hanging and pictures of the blasted remains of his sons i want to see Bin Ladens body too so I know the fucker is dead.

Totally agree with you!!

Great film, I was enthralled from start to finish. It is very close to what I have read about the killing of Bin Laden, however true that was. All in all though, it was well worth the 2 1/2 hrs..... Kathryn Bigelow is becoming one of my favourite film makers :)

I detect some obsessive behaviour in Hollywood at lately.....history has to be written and rewritten to make it fit,no matter what, even when its total lack of corroborated evidence(like in Argo and ZDT)generates scepticism at best if not outright jeers, you can only wonder why...and why strong talents like Kathryn Bigelow have been commissioned for this purpose and at what price??winning some awards?? Most spectators will believe anything is presented as related to true events never doubting how far from truth fiction obviously is.....this has long become unacceptable of course but very few of us have the mental courtesy to oppose prevaricating lies, with the excuse that since it's only entertainment nothing matters...I,for one, would like to see some honest proofs....specially after sitting for two and half hours watching some badly acted, poorly scripted, flag waving movie.

If you expect a Good versus Evil type of film, you will be disappointed... Bigelow is smart enough to show the ugly face of reality without judging her characters. The film moves slowly but the final assault was gripping indeed. I also appreciate that the ending avoids any triumphalism.

Okay I have to compare it to The Hurt Locker and think the Hurt Locker was a better movie. This was a good movie although I thought it was kinda slow and slightly boring the near beginning but it grew on me and got me more involved with the characters. Some scenes were predictable I have got to admit, I was sitting there watching a couples of scenes and I knew what was gonna happen. 6.4/10 For some odd reason I really like Jessica Chastain's chin:L I liked seeing Scott Adkins and John Barrowman in this who are British actors, I'm glad they are being used for some theatrical movies even though they had very small roles:/ Jason Clarke seems to be growing on me, when I first saw him in a movie I forget which, I thought the was rather crappy but I guess he upend his game for this film. Good movie but slightly overrated.

I wish the storyline, customs, dialects, procedures, and so forth were a little tighter and more accurate. I know it was just based on a true story, but it could have still been more accurate. I watched this just after watching 'Django Unchained' and it was interesting to compare directing styles. Tarantino used excessive blood, guts, and violence while Bigelow showed a minimal amount of the same. There were scenes at the beginning and end of 'Zero' that I am sure were much more graphic in real life, but she opted to move the story forward rather than splash around a lot of blood and guts. Watch 'Loose Change' or '9/11' if you want reality. This is a dramatization of CIA agent Maya's (not her real name) hunt for Bin Laden.

The only thing I am going to say is that the only people that know what really happened were the ones that were there. As far as the movie goes I thought it was good, not great but still good.

Posted by idrow

I completely agree with you. It's very suspect because of the fact they dumped him in the ocean. I've never heard of such a thing being done in recent history. The public will never know the truth of what really happened.

Good film did enjoy it. The shooting and explosions were crisp. the video quality went to shit during most the raid however at least on my end. Really enjoyed the determined devout lead female character. The interrogation scenes were kind of rough for some depending on your tolerance. Is definitely worth a watch.

So people really believe this?

Posted by RMT197

im not gunna lie, they hyped this movie up to be the best thing ever, so i watched it and i would like my 2 hours back. it was so boring, so slow, like save yoursefl time and watch the shorter movie based on the same thing called seal team 6 or somehting along those lines. 3 outa 5. i was dissapointed.

I say, pack em all up... and drop them off in the middle of Syria or Iran...

Posted by Noles506

Good cast, well scripted..good action, and good suspense even though we all know the eventual outcome any how. People can debate the politics all they want about wars, 9/11 etc... regardless of who you think was responsible Bin Laden was still guilty of killing innocent people. Go look up the Luxor Massacre or the series of US embassy bombings, how about the bombing and destruction of the USS Cole or how about the first WTC bombing. He had the blood of 1000's upon 1000's of people even if you do not include the attacks of 9/11. Remember that. If you disagree, just means you sanction the killing of innocents for ideological reasons...

when the going gets tough the tough get going. this was pretty good and lots of intel going on in this one. worth watching.
