I am surprised people didn't research Cesar Millan before posting comments. His methods of dog training are pretty much stone age. He has even admitted his techniques are outdated in the past.

ha ha I've tried some of the techniques with my dog but it hasn't worked the greatest. the whole leash thing is out of question, good thing were in the country where he can run around free. Lab, Husky, Coonhound, not the best combination but Duke puts a smile on my face every day

Cesar Millan has actually changed his tone a little because some of his tactics are negative reinforcement, which only encourages the dog to obey you out of fear. This gives the dog the idea that he's only being dominated out of raw muscle, not loyalty. Positive reinforcement has a lot of positives out of it, and serves to ensure the bond that's created through positive reinforcement will be more genuine and long term from the dog's standpoint. Other dog trainers have come out against some of his brute force methods and he has had to agree that he has ran along the line of animal abuse with some of his techniques and could easily be considered as Negative Reinforcement. He is still a great trainer, and is one of my favorites until I started learning the difference between positive and negative reinforcement. And a great guy in person.

One of my favorite Dog Whisperer episodes. It had much more depth in understanding bits of dog communication and behavior verses the typical problems/fixes. I hope he does a follow up on these two once Ruby is better.
