this was an okay film. i guess i was ruined by seeing red dragon first and being a fan of ed norton and anthony hopkins. I really enjoyed the miami vice'esque feel ( of course Michael Mann) overall 8/10

great movie almost scene for scene of red dragon but william peterson as the profiler gives a different feel to the movie manhunter is more dark and gritty than red dragon which gave more history to lecture and the dragon

Manhunter really gave me the creeps, and it was difficult for me to watch in 1986 because it's pretty darn creepy! This is a true classic! The cast is great, William Peterson is awesome, Dennis Farina and Brian Cox are great, and Tom Noonan is extremely, amazingly horrific and convincing as the killer "Francis"; he gave a tremendous performance! I hope you all enjoy and try to remember that Manhunter is 25 years old; it is the first movie in the "Hannibal Lecktor" movie series. For true film buffs, you WILL love Manhunter! This film got rave reviews from many great critics in 1986 and thereafter. If you don't like 80's movies, then this movie may not be for you. Enjoy! :-)

I had no idea that Red Dragon was a remake of this when going into this movie, as I have seen Red Dragon I am so glad that both movies are not identical because i would of found this movie to be very predictable, but it turns out it wasn't that predictable. 6.8/10 I love the soundtrack to this movie I think it's amazing! I have even downloaded Red 7 - Heartbeat onto my Ipod:D The score is brilliant too! Michael Mann is a fantastic director, the reason for me watching this film was because of Mel Gibson on the Braveheart commentary haha. I thought Tom Noonan was great in his role and his is actually scary!!! However I did feel that Anthony Hopkins was a better Hannibal than Brian Cox sorry:( I'm really starting to enjoy William Petersen quite a bit to be honest, he reminds me of Matthew McConaughey:) Has anybody else noticed that the killer in both this and Silence Of The Lambs are in Heat! Ted Levine and Tom Noonan. I do have two tiny problems but I still love the movie they are, the editing in the end sequence as I thought it felt very choppy and rushed:/ and I swear Tom Noonan moved at the end of the film? FANTASTIC MOVIE AND SOUNDTRACK! WATCH IT:D

One of my favourite films and possibly Michael Mann's finest. William Peterson has never been better and Brian Cox gives a haunting performance as Dr Lector. Far superior to the pointless, god awful Red Dragon.

Great classic horror , suspense, before silence of the lambs, the bad guy played a great role as well as the blind lady , 5/5 for me and i don't even like scary movies that much.

Very well done film. Enjoyed watching Petersen get inside the killer's head and dissect the crime scenes. I like Farina's acting and he was good in this film. Noonan as the killer was a good call, he had me convinced. It's a deep film that plods along at times but well worth a watch if you enjoy this genre. 3.5/5

I think this is one of the greatest movies generated during the 1980's. The acting and action scenes were outstanding. Strong performances and build up of drama/suspense throughout and you never knew what to expect to happen next. Excellent ending. This is truly 5/5 all the way - (just never mind the music and 80's shorts!)

First of the Hannibal Lector trilogy. Each of the films in the trilogy has a totally different atmosphere and dialogue types. I personally was more intrigued by the killer in this film than I was with Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs. The killer in Manhunter gets a lot of screen time so you can get inside his head and see what his weaknesses are. Petersen does an excellent job driven by intensity and vulnerability at the same time. Hannibal is my favorite of the three films probably because it gives strong closure to the storyline yet still leaves open some possibilities based on Lector's nature.

This was great film, although it actually featured Hannibal Lecter the least when compared to the rest of the Hannibal series. Red Dragon (2002) is basically a remake of this film with few small changes. Anthony Hopkins plays a much better Dr. Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs (1991), Hannibal (2001), & Red Dragon. Overall, this movie is still a must see due to it being the Original. I had forgotten this was an 80s film until I saw the short pink manshorts with the cool 80s beats playing.

dont get what you mean by "1st of the trilogy" this was 1986, then came the 3 Anthony Hopkins films, are you getting confused between this & "Red Dragon" which was essentially a remake of Manhunter, they're all good films though. :-)

This was a good psych thriller. The easier way to describe it is the 'original' Silence of the Lambs, though not as explicit nor graphic and more low key. A good movie for its time and definitely worth the watch, but DONT compare with Lecktor movies since then, judge it for what it is and you'll enjoy it. Putlocker, great upload, very smooth, thanks

i a very cheesy 80's film, but not in a bad way. It still has the sickness to be worthy of the Hannibal Lecter (or in this case Lecktor) series. And the two probably best things to me were Brian Cox as Hannibal and the soundtrack, which, for whatever reason, stuck out to me. Not to say Anthony Hopkins wasn't the best Hannibal, he was. But Brian Cox is your runner up. 8/10

Hey Proana, I don't think this movie was made to compete with Silence of the Lambs. Clearly, Silence of the Lambs is a higher caliber movie. Didn't come out in the theaters first? I'm pretty sure it was made for TV>

Good movie. As I watched it I realize I'd seen it before. No matter, I didn't remember it well so I kept watching. I remember when I 1rst saw it I was on pins & needles. Now it seems quite dated - which it is. A good 3.5/5.

It's not a remake, they're just both based on the same source material.

Damn this movie is good, yet probably overlooked by most. It is truly dark and haunting. I was completely drawn into the depth and realism of the characters, their relationships, and the black spiraling abyss that the story pulls you into. This is as close to real life darkness as you can get in a film. Petersen's character was a true talent. Beneath, Dreamalittledream said it perfectly: film buffs will love this movie, while others may not appreciate it being made in the 80's.
