Tora! Tora! Tora!: In 1941 the Japanese are at odds with the United States on a number of issues which they are attempting to resolve via their Washington embassy. In case this diplomacy fails, the military are hatching plans for a surprise early Sunday morning air attack on the U.S. base at Pearl Harbour. American intelligence is breaking the Japanese diplomatic messages but few high-ups are prepared to believe that an attack is likely, let alone where or how it might come.

One of the best war movies made. It's a true and factual account of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour and has some of the best photography ever achieved. It's a joint American/Japanese effort and so well done. Everyone should see this film.

For the time it was filmed this was a good one. It portrayed the true story of the horrific attack on Pearl Harbour. A definite watch 5/5

In 1941, 1:00 pm eastern would have been 7:30 am in Hawaii. It was supposed to be a declaration of war followed within the hour of the strike on Pearl Harbor and the Phillipines. Fog on Formosa delayed the air attack on the Phillipines until later in the day and issues within the Japanese embassy held up thier declaration of war until after the attack had begun. The Pearl Harbor raid was the only action the Japanese undertook that day that went off on time.

Tora! Tora! Tora! is perhaps the best film ever made about the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the events leading up to it. The story is told from both the Japanese and American sides, so it makes for powerful film-making. The attack sequences were actually re-enacted during filming, further creating a sense of realism. Also, there is a great musical score by Jerry Goldsmith (who also composed the score for Patton, another war film released during 1970.). There is also breathtaking camera work, especially during the attack sequences. Another plus is the special effects (an Oscar triumph for L.B. Abbott and A.D. Flowers), enhancing the film further. Finally, there is a great cast of Martin Balsam, Soh Yamamura (as Yamamoto), Joseph Cotten, E.G. Marshall, James Whitmore, George Macready, and Jason Robards (who actually was involved in the Pearl Harbor bombing). Both sides form a coherent whole which continues to look impressive with each passing year. A huge cinematic achievement.

incredible war epic and ive seen this more than a few times. unlike the terrorists of today these kama kazis you could see them coming but nothing is never announced in war anyways so no suprise this happened. the japanese also sent baloons with bombs strapped to them which not all landed where they were suppose too. great action scenes with some footage from the real war. 2 thumbs up.
