I really tried to get into this movie. It was visually stunning, the cinematography was amazing. However, I didn't really understand the point of the movie, the plot was very hard to identify. I usually love slow moving artsy movies, but I just didn't understand this one. I might try to watch it again later.

Thank you: I love Malick's films, including his intriguing documentary of the town where he was raised. They're not easy, they require patience and attention, they're beautiful and ultimately rewarding. I'm thoroughly looking forward to this film.

WOW. the nonsense in this movie is beyond belief. i thought this was a huge prank- thought i was watching the discovery channel. the point they are trying to make cd have been done in half the time. Just one question- the beach scene is supposed to be heaven right? HA

I'am gonna brake it down for those who don't get it. (The Tree Of Life) so they bring the story back to the beginning- marriage house baby(seed) so they play out the family lives(Root)threw oxygen water an tender loving care the kids are growing into there own(tree sprouting leaves) and then a tragedy happens an one kid dies.the family morns the death.the oldest son (SeanPenn) lost his better half;all those people are people who crossed paths with that family.Penn happy to see his family and friends back together.The mother was happy to hold her youngest son who died and the middle brother was there still in their child form but Sean Penn, because this is his daydream at work who cant let go of the past.THE END# now the discovery scenes are visual metaphor to show you life's cycle(earth sea, fire, wind, air, sky, water, life, death

This is not a movie for everyone to appreciate. It's a very artistic movie. I thought this was worth the watch only for the stunning amazing visuals of the universe and nature and all that lies close to one's nature. The big questions, the things that matters in life from childhood to death was sort of portrayed in this movie, most focus was on the importance and unconditional love we have for our families. Since i understand Terrence Malick's cinematographic movies, he let's the visuals speak for itself, there's not many dialogues in his movies, but expressions and emotions are instead conveyed through the actors and the soundtrack, and i really love 'The New World', therefore i knew i would like this one too. I must stress the point that most focus is not on a story, but more on relationship and expression through other means of the things that fascinates us and confuses us in the history of life. This was simply numerical metaphorical manifestations of the existence of life, its wonders and mysteries. How everything is connected just like a tree.

Seriously?? As I watched the end of this movie, all I could think was WTF is happening? I still have no idea what the beach is for or which son Sean Penn is. It's definitely a slow movie... But, I liked the theme of innocence. There are great shots which reminds me of Discovery or something. - maybe better on big screen, in 3d, with popcorn, and an empty skull. Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain are the biggest pluses.

I'm Not Usually The Type To Criticize A Movie, But I Thought This Was AWFUL!!! I Usually Read Some Comments, And Whether It's Good Or Bad, I Still Watch It. I Always Hope The People Who Commented Are Wrong, Since I Usually End Up Liking Some Movies That Have "Bad" Ratings. This, On The Other Hand, I Did Not Like. I Heard This Movie Had Dinosaurs And Explored Evolution, But There Was Almost No Dialogue. It Had A Bunch Of Loud Music, And The Parts Where People Spoke...Sounded Like Whispers. I Ended Up Skipping To See The Dinosaurs And The Fishes And All That...Then I Just Exited Out. Wouldn't Waste My Time On This One... Just My Opinion...You May Think Differently If You're Into This Kind Of "Movie".

alot of commments saying that it was boring, well i dont disagree with them, its just not for everybody, people who likes deep artistic stuff will defently like it. i did like it but i got a.l.i.t.t.l.e bored in between. it was so emotional and deep.

I cannot believe these bad comments! Guys! Wake up! This film is not boring at all, but just different from those action flicks that are so popular nowadays. I admit, some parts are strange, and the whole conception is outstanding. I thing those who don't like this movie, don't like philosophy and neither existencential questions. Depicting some parts of book of Job from the Bible is an awesome idea!! Not my favorite but surely something very interesting and worth to watch! At last a flick that gives you real thoughts!! Not to mention the visual rapture! 7/10
