This is a nasty little movie! Subtle like a slow poison, "Benny Video" is about a young Austrian teen who experiences the world only through video where it seems more "real"! He also obsessively watches the slaughter of a hog over and over again. Things get really bad when he invites a girl over when the parents are away! This is not an action packed, edge-of-your-seat movie. There is very little dialogue and the entire film seems designed in the way "Benny" views the world - sterile. The real horror of the movie is what happens near the end and you begin to learn just WHY Benny is who he is. Arno Frisch portrays Benny in an eerily realistic, emotionless way. He hangs out with his friends, does his homework and listens to really annoying industrial music. But, you can almost see the budding psychopath just underneath the surface of his quiet demeanor. This is an early film from director Michael Haneke. Best known for "Funny Games", "Cache" and "The Piano Teacher", Haneke is known for not pulling his punches on film. Recommended for those film addicts that like a slow burn of a movie!
