An absolute classic. Every time. And with themes that will endure right through the decades (and centuries). The psychological breaking and re-constructing of an inhumane war machine unit (aka American, or any of the Imperious Nation's "soldiers"). A pawn capable of horrendous crimes against humanity, drilled into a volatile, xenophobic hate of the completely dehumanized enemy. And the second half also couldn't be more pertinent to today - the constant references to Orwellian-like news propaganda of the "western" war machine. Something which has not only endured into this *next century*, but which has been absolutely perfected with the pre-war rhetoric for the public of the imperious, colonial, supremacist Nations like France, Germany, America and Britain. America must always have a devil to fight, it is the only method they have to unite their people and prevent dissent and revolution. [Russian "commies", China, Vietnam, former Yugoslavia, Russia-Afghanistan, then it was the Muslims Iraq again and Afghanistan again, now Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan, Palestine, Syria, Libya and they want to oppress with sanctions and then kill all the Jews and Christians in Iran too). A truly fantastic movie. And I do love the way it manages to neither glorify nor judge/condemn war and the pawn units the army creates. Almost a clinical glance into both the psychological conditioning of soldiers and the skewed "news" propaganda of the invading occupying imperious forces.

One of the best, if not the best, flick about the Vietnam war. It is right up there with the Deer Hunter and Apocalypse Now. R. Lee Ermey steals the show...as usual ! lol 5/5
